Corporate tax and VAT

Corporate Tax and VAT in the UAE
Registration, Filing and Deregistration

Late corporate tax registration carries a fixed AED 10,000 penalty, so the registration date matters. We coordinate corporate tax and VAT registration, filing and deregistration through independent licensed tax partners, including tax agents on the Federal Tax Authority's register.

Short answer

Companies register for corporate tax and, where required, VAT through EmaraTax on the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) site. The Ministry of Finance publishes a fixed AED 10,000 penalty for late corporate tax registration. Companies incorporated on or after 1 March 2024 have three months from incorporation to register, according to a secondary source, so confirm your own date on the FTA site. Fees for our partners are quote on request.

Who does the work

Xillion Group UAE is a business setup consultancy. It is not a tax agent and does not hold FTA tax agent status. Tax registration and filing are coordinated through independent licensed external professional partners, who are not Xillion employees. A tax agent on the FTA's register represents you before the FTA, and the partner, not Xillion, signs any filing made as agent.

Xillion Group UAE is a consultancy. It is not a licensing authority, a bank or a law firm, and approvals are decided by the authority. This page is general information, not legal, tax or investment advice, and nothing here is a guarantee.

Who it is for

Who this page is for

  • New company owners with a licence issued on or after 1 March 2024 who need to register for corporate tax.
  • Existing companies that have not yet registered and want to see their exposure.
  • Businesses that need to know whether VAT registration applies to them.
  • Owners who want a registered tax agent to represent them before the FTA.
  • Companies closing down that must deregister from corporate tax and VAT.
Steps

How it works, step by step

  1. Share your dates. Licence issue date, financial year end, activity, turnover and whether you are already registered.
  2. Check what applies. A tax partner confirms whether corporate tax registration, VAT registration or both are needed for your case. For background read corporate tax and VAT registration.
  3. Register on EmaraTax. The registration is filed through your EmaraTax account. A registered tax agent can be linked to the account to act for you.
  4. Keep records. Your books feed every return. See accounting and bookkeeping.
  5. File on time. Returns and payments follow the FTA calendar for your company. The partner tracks the dates.
  6. Deregister when closing. Corporate tax deregistration is due within 3 months of ceasing business, dissolving or liquidation (FTA Decision No. 6 of 2023). VAT deregistration is due within 20 working days of the triggering event. See company liquidation.
